I just finished this window display today. It took me around 10 hours over 2 days to complete. It was done so that it can be entered into a contest held by Philadelphia’s Head House District. Any business in the district can participate and the only guideline is that it’s holiday themed. The deadline to finish the window is this Friday December 3, by midnight and first prize gets $1,000 cash.
The judging begins Saturday the 4th at 5pm and an group of judges were put together by the district including writers for the Philadelphia Inquire, members of websites like Daily Candy, and local business owners.
I chose to stick with the reoccurring theme that I’ve been using a lot this winter and just incorporate some new characters while including some familiar BSB™ faces as well. I did the “Manny Brown’s” letters in my favorite fallback font helvetica and used the beautiful “Old London” typeface for the “Merry X-mas” up top. I did the whole thing backwards from the inside using a single water-based wide tip Sharpie and then sealed it with two cans of spray snow. Overall, I was pleased with the outcome despite a few minor details. I’m hoping this will last the remainder of the year inside the bar without some drunk suburbanite meat-head spilling his Miller Lite on it or deciding to see what happens when he swipes his hand across it. Either way after I pocket that cheddar I really don’t care what happens to it.
These 4 french doors measure 5 feet in height by 9 feet in width and are made up of 60 small windows each 5.5″ x 12″. Designing this around all of the woodwork in between was a pain.
